VESTI showcases the beauty of handwoven indigenous fabrics from different Tribes and communities in Mindanao.
Vesti is wearable lifestyle sustainable fashion bags combining ‘Mindanaonon-materials” and modern embellishments and fabrics.
Vesti collaborates with Mindanao small-scale industries and livelihood programs and supports the artisan weavers by buying fabrics directly from them, without the aid of a middle man or other parties.
Vesti Brand Story:
The idea of VESTI started from a circular-shaped sling made of abaca that I designed back in December 2010. That particular style was the best-seller, the hero, the inspiration of VESTI, from the bag collection “Cocktails by Martha Rodriguez”- a capsule of cocktail handbags / slings made from mix-and-match fabrics: chiffon, taffeta, canvas, cotton and other modern fabrics that you normally see during special occasions. When I use that particular abaca bag, people would come up to me and ask where I got my bag, it was surprising (and equally rewarding) to see how people appreciated the style and the fabric used. I suddenly felt the need and thought about creating another brand that mainly brings out all the indigenous fabrics from Mindanao, combine it with modern embellishments and make it more functional and sophisticated.
On Martha Rodriguez
"Being a Mindanaonon myself, born and raised in Cagayan de Oro City, I had one goal in mind for VESTI: build Mindanao Pride through Indigenous Fabrics woven by different tribes in Mindanao (Tinalak, Yakan, Hinabol, Abaca, Mindanao Silk, Jute etc) into modern, functional and lifestyle bags."
ONE OF VESTI'S SOCIAL GOALS IS TO PUSH FOR CONSUMER AWARENESS AMONG FILIPINOS IN THE LOCAL SCENE BY SHOWING OFF OUR WEAVING HERITAGE THROUGH OUR HANDWOVEN INDIGENOUS FABRICS FROM MINDANAO; PROMOTING LOCAL GOODS, INSPIRING CREATIVE MINDS TO CREATE MORE PRODUCTS. THE GLOBAL PINOY WILL HELP US SHOWCASE THESE FABRICS. YABANG MINDANAO, YABANG PINOY!
